There is a new identity on the horizon for Historic Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, a charming town neighboring Penn State. Downtown Bellefonte chose DesignDesign to develop a cohesive wayfinding system that makes movement throughout Bellefonte more intuitive and enjoyable. Along the way, the town gained a professional identity.

To effectively create an identity that is representative of everything that Bellefonte has to offer, we needed to learn and understand the town’s history and the people who live and work there.
The Design Committee in Bellefonte has been a collaborative muscle on the project, joined with DesignDesign and project leader Nancy Perkins. The committee entered into various design development presentations, driving home pivotal feedback to the design firm, to refine the final mark. DesignDesign never lost sight of establishing a mark that is timeless.
The larger goal for the project is to devise a wayfinding system that gives visitors the ease of traveling throughout town with a strong discernment of where they are and where they are going. Such improvements will benefit businesses, government, as well as residents. The project has followed a public participation process, working closely with a design committee elected by Downtown Bellefonte and seeking approval from the Stakeholders and Borough Council at the end of each project phase.
